South Nation Delta Waterfowl Youth Hunt
By: Barry Keicks
Back in March of 2012 I was approached about guiding a group of first time youth hunters by the South Nation Branch of Delta Waterfowl up in Finch Ontario Canada. It was an easy decision to agree to try and get these kids a goose or two as truth be known I have always enjoyed the experience of seeing young kids get their first birds.
A little background information on the program that South Nation Delta, along with the assistance of the South Nation Conservation Authority runs is in order, the amount of time and effort these guys put into this program is nothing short of amazing. In Canada every new hunter must pass both a Provincial Hunters Safety Course and a Federal Firearms Licensing course. What the two organizations do is sponsor the entire cost of the two programs and as a "Graduation Present". A few of the local outfitters throw in a guided goose hunt for the kids. Each year they put 10 kids through the course and over the years more than 60 kids have been introduced to waterfowling by the folks at South Nation. This year, I represented Magnum Hunts and Zink Calls while the other group was paired up with Josh Brugmans of St. Lawrence Outfitters.

A little piece of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics is now gracing the offices of South Nation Conservation in Finch.
More accurately, it’s four pieces…four “slightly used”, 25-foot flagpoles, which served at the 2012 Olympic Games, and that were eventually sold as surplus. Click here for the full story.
