SNCITO3 In Casselman

Geocachers of Eastern Ontario and South Nation Conservation invited members of the general public to join forces with local and area geocachers on Saturday April 28 for a major clean-up in and around Casselman. The new 2012 SNC Geocoin is now available at South Nation Conservation in Finch.

SNC, Municipalities Exchange Information And Ideas

About 35 municipal staff attending the recent Municipal Information Exchange at SNC learned of SNC’s continuing efforts to create a ‘one-stop shop’ for municipalities, with streamlined processes to reduce red tape and speed completion of projects.

Tile Drain Control Structures Available
South Nation Conservation (SNC) has a limited number of tile drain control structures available, at no cost, to farmers with fields within the jurisdiction of SNC. Installation will be covered by SNC on the condition that structures are managed by the recipient according to beneficial drainage management principles. Structures will be allocated to suitable sites on a first -come, first-serve basis.

First Turtle Of The Year

Fisheries Technician, Karen Paquette holds the first Snapping Turtle of the year found March 17th, 2012. Although turtles aren’t usually found until around the first week of April, unseasonably warm weather is contributing to early awakenings all over. Keep an eye out for turtles on roadways and remember to send us YOUR turtle observations to kpaquette@nation.on.ca or post your observations with a photo to our Facebook page.  Click here for a larger image.

While water may be taken for granted by many, it’s a priority for South Nation Conservation.  In the South Nation Watershed, there are a number of programs and activities to ensure the quantity and quality of our shared water resources.

Clean Water Sponsorship Grants Available For 2012
The South Nation Conservation (SNC) Clean Water Committee is pleased to offer 
local agricultural organizations an opportunity to apply for $500 sponsorship for upcoming agri-environmental outreach and education activities being held prior to December 31st, 2012.

SNC Urges Caution, Updates Flood Message Terminology

With the spring thaw around the corner, South Nation Conservation (SNC) advises residents to exercise caution around watercourses.  New flood and water safety messaging terminology have been adopted by SNC, Conservation Authorities across Ontario, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR).
