ONLINE VOTES COULD MAKE SNC GRANT GROW!

June 10, 2011

How can $10,000 in funding turn into $25,000?  With the online support of residents of the South Nation watershed!

South Nation Conservation has been awarded $10,000 in funding from Shell Canada through its new social investment program called FuellingChange. The program provides funding to grassroots, action-oriented projects that improve, restore and protect the Canadian environment, and allows Canadians to vote on the projects they feel are most worthy of additional financial support.

The South Nation initiative - “The South Nation Watershed Belongs To All of Us!” - encourages residents to take ownership and increase awareness of environmental issues and challenges in the watershed through discussion and involvement over the long term.  This will be accomplished through public consultation and focus groups, signage and marketing materials, building and supporting volunteer stewardship networks, and numerous other methods.

The $10,000 in funding already awarded could grow to $25,000, providing the public throws its online support behind the South Nation campaign.  Each qualifying project, including South Nation’s, is profiled on http://fuellingchange.com/#org-list. SNC is asking watershed residents to visit the site, register to vote, and then use the 10 votes they’ll receive to support the South Nation Conservation bid.

“We’re asking our residents to really get behind this effort,” says Gord Shaver, Media Specialist with South Nation.  “Visit the site, register and vote for SNC, then encourage all your friends, family, schoolmates and co-workers to do the same.  The more votes we get, the better our chances of moving up to $25,000 in funding.”

The voting period ends on October 31st of this year.  Full details are on http://fuellingchange.  For additional information and a direct link to the voting site, visit www.nation.on.ca.
