#8 Grassland bird habitat
Hayfields and meadows provide habitat for grassland bird species like the Bobolink. These songbirds will build their nests, raise their young, and hunt for insects in dense grasses every summer.
Bobolink populations are greatest in the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence River area, but are in decline due to habitat loss. They receive protection under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act.

Bobolinks will fly up to 1,800 km in one day on their migration trip to Argentina.
