South Nation Wood Creations Online Auction Wraps Up with Solid Finish
South Nation Conservation (SNC) wrapped up an online Wood Auction that raised nearly $3,000 to support tree planting initiatives across its 4,441 km2 jurisdiction in Eastern Ontario.
“Thanks to the support from the online auction, we are well on our way to surpassing last year’s record-breaking tree planting number of 230,000 trees planted,” said John Mesman, SNC’s Community Lands and Outreach Lead.
Building on the success of the Art for Trees auction held in 2020, in lieu of the postponed annual SNC Golf Tournament, the Wood Auction featured many wood ware products such as furniture, displays, art, signs, and charcuterie boards.
In total, 45 participants placed 154 bids on 30 handcrafted, generously donated items by talented artisans from across the region. The silent auction ran entirely online from October 12th to 29th using the website www.32Auctions.com.
“We would like to thank the public for participating and placing bids, and the artisans who donated items. Their support helps to protect and restore the local environment on behalf of our partner municipalities and residents,” Mesman added.
Since 1990, SNC has planted more than 3.5 million trees across its watershed to enhance forest cover thanks to community and municipal partnerships and annual fundraising.
Money raised from the auction will support the Community Free Tree Giveaways, which helps put more trees in the ground and fosters landowner environmental stewardship.
Donations to SNC can be made online at www.nation.on.ca/donate or by contacting the Conservation Authority’s office in Finch at 1-877-984-2948 or info@nation.on.ca.
SNC is a registered charity with the Canadian Revenue Agency and may issue donation receipts for tax return purposes.
