South Nation River Natural Hazards Study

South Nation Conservation (SNC), together with local municipalities, will begin the South Nation River Natural Hazard Study to better understand flooding and other natural hazards along the South Nation River and nearby watercourses.

The study will help identify areas that may be vulnerable to flooding and support improved flood mapping, emergency planning, and the protection of homes, infrastructure, and communities.

Field Survey Work

As part of the study, SNC staff will be conducting field surveys in fall 2026. Staff will collect information to determine:

  • River and stream channel depths and widths
  • Bridge and culvert dimensions

Staff will generally access watercourses from public road allowances wherever possible. Where access to private property is required, staff may need to walk and work within the river or stream corridor. Property visits are expected to take approximately 30 minutes.

Property Access Permission

If your property is identified as requiring access for field work, SNC is requesting your permission to enter the property to complete the survey.

Your cooperation will help us develop a more complete understanding of flood risk in the community and support more accurate natural hazard mapping and emergency planning.

Study Area

The South Nation River Natural Hazard Study covers the South Nation River and nearby watercourses within the study area, including the North Branch of the South Nation River.
